I received the top I am supposed to quilt & I am having some problems.  Actually, it's all sort of one big problem.  At the time of the first round, a narrow decorative edge was made with what I assume is silver tissue lame & it is starting to fray, so I took a closer look & discovered that it is not stitched down all the away around.  In the picture at the right, maybe you can see the folded green part?  Well that fold bumps up against/does not over lap the silver part & is only attached by that line of stitches in the pink which even at the point closest to tape is not 1/4" wide & then it runs right off the edge of the pink so one washing & they are gone.  Those stitches you can see at the silver...they hold the pink to the silver & that's it, they never catch the green.

The short fix would be to open it up & restitch as best I can w/out pressing (because lame melts, right?) which is when I spotted the bigger problem:  there are places where the seam allowance is nowhere near 1/4".  If I pull these seam out they will never go back together.  & I cannot just quilt it to death because there is that lame edge that is going to shatter when I start stitching it.

If I had just the one problem I could fix it but with two, solving one means making the other one worse.  I thought about applique BUT I am only showing you one of the problem seams/gaps; any applique(s) that dealt with all of them would more or less cover all of the silver lame as well as the applique border next to it.  &  I thought about ironing the whole thing to lightweight interfacing but won't that melt the silver lame?

I realize I may end up quilting very heavy down that silver lame edge whether I want to or not but I thought I would ask first & then maybe sleep on it. Any suggestions would be most welcome!

I am getting excited now that we are coming down to the wire!  I can't wait to see my poor orphan block now fitted up with wonderful friends.

I will be in Alaska for the next few weeks but will get the piece I have received finished when I get back.   I hope everyone has lots of time to quilt on their favorite stuff!

See ya on the other side!

Quilt has arrived

My final round has arrived from Carol safe and sound. I have yet to figure out what to do with this one, I'll leave it somewhere conspicuous so that I can mull over it a while. I do think that these little quilts need more thoughtful quilting than bigger ones - maybe because they are often looked at up close.

I have another project that is my highest priority. I know that by the time I get through that one, I'll know what to do.

Sophie is Ready to Quilt

I have received the package from Elizabeth, with it's beautiful hand appliqué.  I stopped for tea and a pastry on the way home from the post office, took the package with me, spread out the quilt top on the table while I was waiting for my order and thought about quilting design ... I know what I want to do, I just need to find the right backing fabric and decide on binding color.

I love working on these little quilts!

It's That Time Again...

Time to mail the center-with-two-borders if you haven't already done so.

And time to communicate, if you haven't done so!

I apologize profusely if you sent me a note already and I didn't catch it, but here's who I think I need to hear from:

Did you send your project yet?

Did you receive a project to work on yet?  I know some of them just went in the mail this week, so please let me know when it arrives...

My little package including it's second row is on it's way to Sandra in Ontario!!  Have fun! This is a really cute little quilt!!

I received my quilt to finish from Glenda in yesterday's mail!!

In a word...

Can't wait to get started, but then that's what I always say!!!
It's hang on the design wall in the studio and I am pondering how to finish it :)

mailed to Nan

Hello all,
just wanted give a heads up that I did receive my package at the end of last week from Terry in CA!
I finished it this evening and will pop it in the mail to Nan tomorrow afternoon!
Things seem to be back on track!

yep!  got it off to Maria in NH just this morning.  the lady at the post office wanted to see it so I had show and tell with the 1 clerk and 27 customers waiting in line.  I am sure that thrilled gentleman #26 in line!

Let me know what you think of it!

Posted to New Zealand

I sent off the block with two rounds. It's on its way to Laurina in Auckland. I mailed it on May 7.

Received a package from Norway this morning.  It did not like the trip!!!!  It appears to be in decent shape, but there is a big stain on one of the centers.  I will gently try to remove and if that fails, will applique something.

I am looking forward to quilting this up and get it out right away.

to Be Mailed

I had a hard time with this one.  But Friday, the inspiration hit me.  I had the answer all along too!

So I worked up some blocks on Friday night and Saturday afternoon I added them to the little piece.

Now it looks amazing!  It will get mailed off to Marie I think, tomorrow morning after my Pilates class!

glen: whew!  just under the deadline!

Just to say I've now had a finished top waiting to be quilted land on my doorstep (so to speak).  Not sure what I'll be doing with it yet. But I can look at it and wait to be inspired...

mailing soon?

Here's a quick reminder that our next mailing date is coming up on May 15.  Your center-with-2-borders should be about ready to go off to be quilted!  (with an exception or two for some catch-up projects that are getting a late start)

I've seen photos of a few of the finished tops, and they're splendid as usual...

My package went in the mail to Glen on Saturday.  If you've mailed or received a package, please be sure to let me know.

I also volunteered to do a round for someone who dropped out and that is now on it's way to Liz.

In The Mail

I mailed a center block with two borders to Norway. A MAKE UP block with one border To Canada. I could not believe it when the Postal worker said it Cost $17.92 for the postage. I am grateful this isn't The Gold Bar Robin! I TRULY love the challenge of opening the Package and deciding "What's Next"?

Another Quilt on the Way

I mailed the quilt at my house, with border two (which I already teased here) to Rachel to be finished.   (Rachel, I'll email you with the USPS tracking info)

I think this one will be really fun to quilt ... which, of course, probably means the one I have to quilt will be a challenge ;-)
