No Label

My block to work on did not have a label...should I create one to send along the rest.  I was thinking that the original owner could then add her/his name and use it if they want.

I hung up the block I received and while I was pondering my options, I suddenly wanted to make the block I was sent not in the center.  Kinda like 1/4 of a 4-patch.  Would that be allowed?  Or does the center block need to stay in the center?

Got my center block, too!

I've actually had mine for a while. Just got a chance to post. The block is beautiful. It is such a challenge though to come up with a border for a block whose style is so different from my own! I can't wait to see what everyone comes up with.

Surprise! Surprise! Surprise!

You can just hear Gomer Pyle's voice, can't ya ...

Got the big squishy envelope today! Oakland, California to Oakland, Oregon in three days. Not bad USPS, not bad at all.

The beautiful center block is hanging (in a plastic sleeve protector - to prevent any cat damage!) on the wall over my cutting table where I can see it. I'm waiting for it to tell me what sort of first border it wants added... hope it starts making suggestions pretty soon!

A Funny Thing Happened ...

A funny thing happened when I opened my package.  I pulled the block out.  I had especially liked it when Julie posted the photos of our blocks and was excited to have received it.  I IMMEDIATELY knew what kind of borders I wanted to add and started thinking about how soon I could begin . . . until I pulled out the slip that Julie added with the preferences.  Guess who explicitly does NOT want the very thing I thought would be PERFECT?

Of course the moral of my story is to BE SURE to RE-read the preferences ;-)

I aspired to make a block that could fit into multiple styles of quilts  ...  the person who made the block in my hands now DEFINITELY accomplished that goal--kudos to you, whomever you are!

Block Received

I received my block to add the first border on today.  I have to leave it on the design wall for a few days for inspiration.  It is a beautiful start and I want to do it justice.

Got it!!

I received the block that I am putting the first border on today!!!  Very exciting...I hope to have time in a day or so to get going on it!!!
Got my block yesterday.  Maybe will have time on Sunday to get started...

Block Arrival

The lovely block arrived today.  I have to find the fabric I want to add into the mix while I am working.  I know I have some somewhere - maybe in my 6.5 inch block box?!

I've Got Mine!

My envelope arrived yesterday!

Got my block today!!!!

Yeah. I love it and have a lot of ideas. I probably need to start soon becaus all those ideas are complicated!! LOL.

Thanks, this is awesome!

I haven't opened it yet, but I got my block! (Now to go back & look at the rules 1 more time. I'd hate for this to an "applique" round & for me to do 4 patches...)

Mail Call

All of the packages went in the mail a few minutes ago.

Please let me know when you receive yours, and then let me know when you send it on to the next person.

Each packet includes a slip of paper with a reminder of where to send it when you've added the first border, and each (I think) includes a slip with the preferences of the person whose block you're working on.  Please try to remember to include the preferences when you send it along for the second border.

If you need any questions answered, just send me an email...

Have fun!

Here are the last three blocks -- now I can get everything packaged up to mail out.  I'll post when they're in the mail.  Please post or send me an email when you receive your envelope, but don't say which block you got!

In the Mail!...Really!

My block made it to the mailbox today!

(No, this is not my center block.)
I just felt weird to blog without a picture, so this is UFO I found while I was looking for tracing paper.

I usually take the mail out when I walk the kids to the bus stop (by the mailbox - 1/4 mile away, round trip)  but it's been so cold lately that by the time I get them all bundled and myself into a coat, I've forgotten all about the mail.

Today, my Mr Wonderful walked the kids out with the mail.

I took up Sophie's challenge and made a duplicate block.

robin update

I've received 7 out of 16 center blocks so far, and I've heard from a few of you that yours is in the mail.  If you haven't checked in lately, please let me know the status of your block...

I couple of you didn't exactly follow the "keep it secret" instructions and you put your name on the quilt label that you enclosed with your block.  I'm inclined to just go with the flow and let your projects be "not completely secret" unless you tell me otherwise...

the rule about not posting photos of the border with the center still stands, though -- even if you know whose project you're working on, that person won't see the finished quilt until it's finished.

Starting block

I finally got a chance (and the inspiration) to make my starter block for this round robin today. I'm pleased with how it came out and as soon as I take off the paper, it's off in the post to Julie, with required accompaniments. Looking forward to seeing what everyone else produces, and of course, to receiving my first block to work on!

The Big Beginning!!!

After a bit of a false start...(I "mismeasured" my first block..it  came out to be 12 inches!")  I have finished my Cotton Robin block and have it packed up with all the other stuff to send to Julie.  Am going to town today and will get it in the mail...I think it should reach her before the fifteenth!

I am really looking forward to seeing what everyone else has done....and to receiving the blocks for me to add to...I have gotten into a couple of other challenges this new year...one is a Free Motion Quilting/Learning experience challenge.  Another is a BOM challenge; and I think I may sign up for "One Little Word"..a class emphasizing one word for the year with journaling, art work, etc...at least I think that is what is is all about!  Oh, and there is a Color Palette challenge I am going to attempt.

Okay, that should keep me busy for awhile...along with my other commitments!! I am into Zentangling and like to keep up with a weekly challenge on that subject!

Happy New Year, all...Jay
