Check your email!

I've just sent an email to everyone (I think) who has expressed interest in the 2017 Cotton Robin.  If you don't have an email from me:

1) check your spam folder, and if it's not there
2) send me an email or leave a comment

Thanks, and Happy Holidays!

2017 -- it's coming soon!

I have 21 participants so far -- I'll keep things open for another week or two, but be sure to get in touch if you want "in" for 2017 and you're not already on the list at the right side of the blog.

In the meantime, start thinking about your center block. it should be no bigger than 9"x 9" or 8" x 10" and can be smaller if you wish, or some other dimensions as long at it's not more than about 80 square inches, finished size.

As before, please don't use any fabrics that can't be ironed or that will ravel a lot, or will cause problems for sewing/quilting (if you want an exception, contact me -- I've approved one so far.)

Your choice of block and fabric should reflect the sort of quilt you want at the end, although there are no guarantees!

Cheers,

Julie

Anyone Game? or, Who Wants to be a Robineer?

The weather has changed to "sweater" so it must be time to start up a new round of robins...

See this post from last year for basic rules, and send a comment or email me if you want to join in. The more, the merrier, right?

If you've participated in the past and want to invite a friend or two with some quilting skills, please do.

Having said that, of course we're trying to avoid quality control issues!  It is expected that you can cut and stitch a straight line (if you're making something that requires straight lines!) and have familiarity with the various parts of making a quilt...

See you soon!

Julie

nearly there...

Here's an update:

There is one quilt not yet mailed -- hoping that will happen tomorrow!

I need to hear from Marie and Suzette as to whether you've received the quilt that was mailed to you (sorry if you told me and I missed it...)

Laurina's quilt has been mailed (and delivered) to her mother's house in the U.S., and she'll arrive on the 20th.  If everything else is in order I might do the Big Reveal before that, but maybe I'll wait.

Stay cool,

Julie

Opened My Little Quilt Package

So I couldn't handle the suspense anymore.  I had to open the package that has been sitting here.

I am always amazed at the talent in the hands it passes through.

Late ... But On It's Way to Cathy

It has been a real comedy of errors around my house, made worse by a huge dose of life stress ... but Cathy's little quilt is on it's way to Iowa.

One of the things-gone-wrong was when I broke a sewing machine needle last night and couldn't find a package of needles anywhere. Earlier in the day I was supposed to find out if I was going to be offered a job ... instead I heard that one of the interviews (of another candidate) was moved to next week, so I won't hear anything until then.  I really need/want this job and the stress of waiting all week to be told to wait another week got to me a lot.  So much so, that when I broke the needle it didn't occur to me until much later (this morning), that I could have used one of my OTHER sewing machines (or at least taken the needle out of one of them ... doh!

It was a bit of a mad rush to finish before the Post Office closed ... but I made it and it's on it's way.  Sorry for the delay.

Sent and Received

I have received my quilt from Helen. Thanks it's beautiful. I sent off Racheals quilt today. She should have it in a day or two. Love hearts!

It's here! It's here!

Yesterday I came home from a trip. Today the parcel lay in front of my door. Oh, the surprise! Susan didn't only put my little quilt in but also some treats. My chocoholic husband was also happy. Thank you so much.
Sophie, Marie and Susie presented me with an exquisite little quilt. This is my first Cotton Robin and it will get a prominent spot in my house. Thank you, ladies. Awesome!
Happy Christa in VA

Thanks,

Julie

Princess Kate

I was lucky enough to finish the little quilt that heads to England for Princess Kate!

Bet you didn't know we had Royalty, did you?  I mailed yesterday and the mean lady at the post office made me open it up so she could see it was not illicit merchandise.  I think she just wanted to see the quilt.

Luckily, I had not sealed it up since I was thinking I might need a different envelope.

So, next week, Kate!

Let me know how you love it!  This was the most  amazing little quilt I have ever worked on.  I so wish it were mine.

Binding

Last night, I finished the quilting on the Cotton Robin piece and auditioned several pieces for the binding, but in the end I knew I needed the gold.

It is the best Cotton Robin I have ever seen in all the years I have been working on them.

I don't want to send it off..........

Well travelled!

My tiny quilt arrived at it's forever home in the woods (forest) of Oregon with this morning's mail. Quite a trip it had: Oregon, California, to the UK, back to the USA (Michigan), on to New Zealand, and finally back to Oregon. I think it may have travelled more than I did this year, especially if all the Gulf Coast states we visited are counted as one trip. Thank you all! My little quilt is wonderful. And double thank you to Julie for making CR 2016 the best EVER! Hats off to you!!!!!

The clock is ticking!

Welcome to Summer!

The deadline for mailing out your completed quilt is June 30 -- so you should be finishing up the quilting & binding if you haven't already done so...

I was working away at mine yesterday, but when I ran out of bobbin thread I decided it was too hot to keep going (I'm probably not the best example!)

Please remember to email a photo of your completed quilt to me (don't post it here) and to let me know when you mail it and when you receive yours back.  Once everyone has her own quilt, I'll post "the big reveal" to the world.
Thanks,

Julie

One little quilt

Found the two-border top from Rachel when I came back home from a trip. What to do? I think the people before me did amazing and very interesting. Well, you have to jump in sometime ...
The little quilt is on its way to Glen.
All what is left for me to do now is to wait until mine arrives. This has been great. Yes, sometimes a little stressful but I love challenges. Just hope everybody is happy with what I did. My first time. But I hope not my last. Thanks, Julie!!!

Flimsyreceived

Just to say, I received today the finished top which I need to quilt. I really like it - it will be hard to let it go back to its owner!  The good thing is, for once, I knew exactly how it wanted to be quilted, right away. Most times I have to dither a lot first. This doesn't mean it will be done a long way before the deadline, of course, but at least I have a plan!

Wednesday, May 18, 2016

In & out at the post office.

I dropped off the quilt going to Elizabeth and picked up the one coming from Liz.

The note from Liz (and two previous round robiners) seems to be for a different quilt, though ... maybe the one you are quilting?

Feeling a Little Like Alice's White Rabbit

I'm late, I'm late, I'm late.

My second round is finally complete and will be mailed to Elizabeth tomorrow.  I have sent her a sneak peek so she can start planning in the meantime.

I think I got held up on this round because the design idea that popped into my head the moment I received it was a bit unconventional and I kept trying to come up with something more safe and normal ... but the original idea continued to except itself and refused to let go until I gave in and ran with it.

When this quilt returns home, I hope that the owner will ...

and

and like my choices for her quilt.

Quilt received

The quilt arrived this morning from Elizabeth. It's on the design wall as I ponder how to quilt it. There's some good negative space here calling out for some quilting, so I'm sure I'll come up with something.

"It's In The Mail"

The little quilt with two borders is winging it's way to Suzette's house in Mesquite Texas. At least I hope it is winging it's way... I'm not even sure if mail goes by truck any more. I think the mail between Oakland, OR and Oakland, CA goes via mule pack-train! Sometimes it takes almost a seven-day week to get from here to there... Suzette's package is supposed to get to her by Monday. Have a good time with it 😎
Suzette, if you saw this earlier, I'm sorry for calling you by somebody else's name. If you didn't already see it, then I didn't make that error. 😉

Mailed

I mailed the next round to Helen yesterday.

Arrived in Louisiana

I was surprised by a package today.  I guess not knowing it was coming helped me not obsess over it not getting here fast enough!

And I might say it is drop dead gorgeous.  It may never leave this house!

It is one of the most beautiful ones in all the years I have been doing this!

This team batted it out of the park.

Received Top From Glen

And it's a beauty.

I'm still working on my round which will be sent to Sophie.  Be patient as this quilt did not talk until a few weeks ago.

It's nearly time...

We're coming up on the May 9 deadline to mail your finished quilt top off to be finished. I know that a handful have already been mailed and a few have been received.

Please remember to let me know
- when you mail your top
- when you receive your project to finish
- if you're going to be late mailing yours out

My top will go in the mail to Nan tomorrow!

Thanks,

Julie

p.s. gratuitous photo of my newly-adopted kitties, Jeremiah and Lucy!  They look like siblings, but they're not related...  They're definitely pals, though

block received

I received my block from Laurina yesterday!
I have not really looked at it as I am still finishing the second border for the other block.
I will mail  it out by Monday!
It has been a very busy month for me, so I am right down to the wire!

Mailed!

Oh, no.....

I forgot to post for Liz...Hey, girlfriend.  I mailed on Friday....

This is Monday, right?  Yes, Friday, I mailed on Friday.....or Thursday?

There was a clerk who went to lunch in the middle of a long long line out the door, so it wasn't on Saturday!  LOL.

Yes.  Friday.

second border in the mail

I have finished the second boarder and am dropping it into the mail to Sandra today. Usually I like to add a sneak peak of the border, but I think it might be too obvious, so I'll just have to keep it a complete secret.

2nd Round Sent

Since I am going to be out of town next week and my border is done, I have sent it on it's way to Christa.  Sorry, it's a little early, but you can do like I do and ignore it til you're ready.  Have fun with the quilting!!!

I Am The Best Round Adder In The World!

Well, at least my world!

It is quite amazing, if I say so myself.  I have no idea who owns this little block, but you will be so in love with it.  You will be amazed....just amazed at what a great designer/artist/quilter I am!

The person who passed it to me gave me the most perfect base on which to to work. (Thank you, Laurina!!!!)  Now I don't want to send it on.   I think it needs to stay with me forever!

Yes, I had to work on it, I am leaving for the Caribbean soon an wanted it to be ready to send upon my return.

OMG! Do I love it.  Yes, it is.......(I need a new and exciting adjective).......incredible!

glen:  now I can't wait to send it on......

Received and sent

I received Sandra's block in the mail.  I also sent my block with first round to Helen.  And yes I took a picture lol.

Sandra's round will be challenging to follow...

Reporting

Got the center with 1st border from Helen. A very unique border. Definitely not boring and I really like it!!!
And what do I do now? Hang it up on the design wall and hope I get an inspiration. I will have lots of time to "play" when my husband is gone in 3 days on a 500 miles pilgrimage in Spain. No excuse then!

Friday, March 25, 2016

Mailed & Received!

Just to say I received my new centre with first round to work on, on Wednesday. Thanks, Nan!  Looking forward to doing something with it, though what, I don't yet know.

Also, I am tardy in saying I mailed my centre-with-first-round out to Elizabeth on Monday - right down to the wire, I know.  But it was on time, just...  It's been very busy here lately. (Like always; not sure what my excuse is!)

Wednesday, March 23, 2016

package received from Cathy

I got the starter with the first border today and its pretty awesome!
Great job Cathy!

Tuesday, March 22, 2016

O.M.G - it's here

I went to the post office this afternoon and picked up the package from Christa. Her round is phenomenal ... and is going to be a tough act to follow.

Ironically, I had been thinking that the second round is usually the easiest for me because the big design decisions have been made and all you have to do is follow the lead of those that preceded you and pull it all together ...  that's definitely not the case this year :-)

Communication!

PLEASE don't forget to let me know when you send and when you receive!  The only thing I don't like about this round robin is having to chase people down to find out what's going on...

Elizabeth, Kate and Liz -- have you mailed out your packages?

Cathy, Kate, Liz, Nan, Sandra and Sophie -- have you received your next package yet?

Thanks,

Julie

(apologies, of course, if you DID tell me and I spaced it out...)

Oh! Laurina!

It is gorgeous!  And a perfect touch of color!  And that stamp with the Queen is gorgeous.

I have several ideas, but we shall see which one wins out!

On it's Way!!

The center I received with the first row added is on it's way to Julie!

Also, I received my next project from Sophie, Love - Love - Love!! What she did to it!!!
Can't wait to get started...

Saturday, March 19, 2016

I received my block for the second border last week, but I didn't want to look at it until I finished the one I was working on.  I finally finished my first border and sent it out yesterday, but it will take about 3 weeks to get to Laurina.  Now to think about the next border!!!

Round Two! Or is it Three?

I received my next piece in the mail yesterday from Glen.  She wrote a love note on it to Ray but none to me!  TSK! I looked at the little gem and an idea popped into my head.  I texted my idea to Glen and she gave her seal of approval so now off to dig in the stash!

Having fun!

Will be mailing out to Liz tomorrow or Monday!

In the mail

A center with the first border is on the way to Sophie. What a learning experience this was. Mixed feelings about "is it good enough" and "happy about it".

Suzette!

I mailed my block and first round off to Suzette this morning.

I don't know why this happens, I am either at the post office WITHOUT the block package, or have the block package and AM NOT at the post office.......don't you just hate that?

In the Mail

I mailed a bordered center off for the next round to Sandra today.  I had fun with it!

Cathy

It's nearly spring!

And that means it's time to finish up your first border and get your project in the mail to the next quilter...

I've heard from a few of you that your packages have been mailed; please be sure to let me know when you send and receive.  My envelope will go to the post office tomorrow.

Another robin is ready to fly ...

Before Swooze posted a couple days ago, I had been thinking I ought to finish my round–it has been sitting on my design wall in a half-finished state for a while–and it would be a good idea to check the deadline for mailing (and stop living in blissful ignorance).  So ... thanks for the nudge.

As I was finishing up my round today, I was thinking about the signs that your quilt may have passed through my hands:

  • It will be scrappy (unless you said you explicitly said you wanted something otherwise)
  • An organic shape may find it's way onto your quilt
  • Letters are a definite possibility

Alphabet Soup

It will be going in the mail to Marie in the next day or so.  I'll email you, Marie, with the tracking number when it's on it's way.

First border complete and ready to go

I think I had this finished 2 days after it arrived. Not trying to sound like an overachiever, but life has been a bit demanding lately and I'm happy if I get anything done ahead of its due date.

It's all packaged up and ready to put in the mail. Should have plenty of time to find its way to its destination.

Here's a peek at the first border - the colors have been (significantly) changed to protect the innocent.

Tuesday, March 8, 2016

Ready to Send

I had it in my head that I was to have my block with border ready this week.  It is all ready and looks like I'm within the 2 week window for sending so will be posting it off today.

How is everyone else doing?

just in case...

Hello all!

I wanted to post here as well to make sure that I confirmed that I received my block last week!

Now to put my thinking cap on....

small update...

Good news -- everyone has received a center block!

And... the missing block finally arrived at my house, a few days after I posted all the photos.  I've been mulling over whether to continue with the "surprise center" I had picked out, or switch to the "real" center, and finally decided to go with the real one.  So here's a photo of it:

I already have a few ideas about a border for this one.  Can't wait to see what you do with all the others!

Center block arrived in New Zealand

My center block has arrived - I was surprised how quickly it made its way across the Pacific. It's on the design wall and I am wondering what to do with it. It's not my usual style, but that's all part of the fun and I'm looking forward to experimenting with a different style.

Please don't forget to post here or email me when your first package arrives.
