I hung up the block I received and while I was pondering my options, I suddenly wanted to make the block I was sent not in the center.  Kinda like 1/4 of a 4-patch.  Would that be allowed?  Or does the center block need to stay in the center?

Kristin I can't remember whose block you're working on, but I think that unless it was someone who described themself as very traditional, you have artistic license! The only thing is that the finished quilt is supposed to be no bigger than 20"... so if you turn and 8" square into a 4-patch, you're not leaving a lot of room for an interesting border.

Thanks for the 20 inch reminder - I need to think about that as I practice my border plan.
